FUNKED UP SPARKLE VIDEO DAY!

I think we can all agree that Rick James invented “More is More” after seeing today’s Sparkle Video. There is nothing that’s not going on here: pyro entrance, glitterized hair, sequin spandex, knee-high metallic boots and a SPACE CUFF ONSLAUGHT that will kill your eyes with fabulousity! That’s because the whole entire band is decked out in Sparkle Funk Attire and it’s mighty impressive- especially because this song is about growing up in the ghetto and I’m pretty sure the only man who could get away with this outfit in the ghetto is Rick James. Even dressed in sparkles, he is a BADASS MASCULINE SEX MACHINE that takes full command of the stage and with when he says “Where’s the place you like to Funk?”…  you better know the answer!

FREEEZSTYLE SPARKLE VIDEO DAY!

Today’s Sparkle Video is a blast starting from the moment the TV announcer pokes fun at the band and the camera pans across a “white gloved” young lady doing the Robot. But wait… she’s not alone. Freeez is surrounded by squeaky clean kids wearing the white gloved look of old school Pop n’ Lockers! It makes me wonder- did they call each other the night before or did they buy them at the studio? Perhaps it was one of those wacky demands that bands put in their Rider? Were all the cool dancers at Soul Train?

I guess we’ll never know.  Regardless, “Pop Goes My Love” is a classic that you don’t hear much and this morning, it’s sounding FRESH!  Fresh enough to put me in a dancing mood and from watching all those colorful flashing lights- I’m ready!  Now, where did I put my gloves….

WHAT’S INSIDE SPARKLE VIDEO DAY

Today’s Sparkle Video was chosen for several reasons, but mostly to remind everyone that the Sparkle Army likes BOTH kinds of music: Rock n’ Roll and Disco. Another reason is that today is October 1st, starting the countdown to Halloween- the holiday where everyone in NYC goes completely crazy, dresses up and parties!

In this video, The Cramps make a live television appearance in pure Sparkle Style style to answer the question everyone has on their minds, “What’s Inside a Girl?”.  Like many of their songs, this one takes humorous lyrics, old fashioned rockabilly sounds and adds a heaping tablespoon of psychotic frenzy!  I can’t watch this video without thinking of all The Cramps shows I’ve seen, the magic of Lux Interior and how much I miss him.  His passing was a devastating blow to the music world and fans everywhere so today, let’s go forth and make Lux proud! Grab your finest, sleaziest Cramps memories and put on some gold spandex, high heels and sunglasses (yes, i’m talking to the boys) and run in the streets screaming.. “Today Is Sparkle Video Day F*ckers!”

SPARKLE VIDEO DAY RETURNS!

Today’s Sparkle Video truly represents my mind frame at the moment; I’m finally back home in NYC where Halloween Fever is taking over, and at the same time, I’m holding on to my Berlin-ness as long as I can.  To further illustrate where my brain is at, the legendary Romy Haag is sparklingly spacey as a retro modern Bride of Frankenstein surrounded by the ONLY accessories one needs: hot men in banana hammocks! This video’s sultry disco music, flashing lights and half naked bodies has me ready to jump back on a plane, but alas, that will have to wait until AFTER winter!

SPARKLE VIDEO DAY!

I’m still on vacation so my clock is a bit off resulting in a very late post of today’s Sparkle Video. Once you see this you’ll understand how my week has been- nothing but fabulous!

This  DAZZLING video was made by the Berlin Sparkle Soldiers at Chlorophorm TV and it’s all about the Sparkle Army party last Saturday which was OFF THE CHAIN!  They did such an amazing job- I just HAD to feature it this week… ENJOY!

Da General SPARKLE ALERT!

Thank You Berlin!

Join the Sparkle Army last Saturday in Berlin was spectacular! With nothing more than art supplies, a staple gun and gallons of glitter- Monster Ronson’s was transformed into an intergalactic spaceship filled with the most beautiful Spaced Out Sparkle Soldiers the universe has ever seen! Also, mandatory effects like multi-colored laser beams, overloaded disco balls and gobs of smoke were dazzlingly successful in their mission! (sorry about the tickets from the fire department Ronson.. we’re still cool, right?).

I truly had an amazing time doing my favorite things: dancing chatting partying, and now I MUST thank all the people who made my dreams come true:

Monster Ronson- the man, the myth, the legend. Without him, this party could not happen… at all. You are a true friend for many reasons, but especially for putting up with the moods and demands of an aging diva!

Rebi- genius of lighting and sound, master of the staple gun and hundreds of other things- your contribution to this party is BEYOND just a thank you!

It’s SPARKLE VIDEO DAY from BERLIN!

With so much to do before Join The Sparkle Army at Monster Ronson’s tomorrow night, I almost forgot it’s Sparkle Video Day!  ALMOST. Don’ t worry though- Da General would never do that to you.

This Doris D & The Pins video is one of my favorites and is a classic in every way- the music, the outfits, the gobs of smoke. In fact, with all the disco balls strewn about, it looks like Ronson’s right now- except that we have more GLITTER, SPARKLES and LASER BEAMS!

SPARKLE VIDEO DAY IS “UP”!

Today’s Sparkle Video is one that will get you right up off your feet!  The gorgeous ladies of Stargard are a force to be reckoned with- all them sexy, sassy and fabulously dressed. I love that each of them is wearing a totally different look and all at the height of disco fashion: Metallic shimmer catsuit with batwing sleeves and gold boots, red spandex catsuit with matching cocoon coat, blush pink satin jumpsuit with feather accents.  If only people dressed like that today, the world would be a much nicer place.

“OK” SPARKLE VIDEO DAY

Don’t let the title of this post deceive you, there is nothing “OK” about today’s Sparkle Video- it’s PURE FUNK MADNESS! From the very beginning, American Gipsy starts forcing their mantra “I’m OK, You’re OK, We’re OK!” onto your soul.  There’s no intro, no build up- just FULL ENERGY ATTACK and that’s the way I like it. They’ve also covered everything when it comes to outfits: sparkle vests, space capes, metallic boots, white lady in cornrows and classic disco jumpsuit- this video has it all!

So…it’s Friday … let’s GET IT ON!

ULTRA-SPARKLE VIDEO DAY!

This is like crack for the hopelessly SPARKLE ADDICTED! Let’s skip over the song, as I prefer to shut off the volume and replace it with the glorious sound of The Trammps “Disco Inferno”.  Luv’s video is all about the outfits- they are so nonsensically fabulous in a medieval cheerleader/Judas Priest sorta way. The fleshy bodysuit that only suggests nudity combined with Heavy Metal studded shoulder pads and wrist cuffs proves that sometimes, being all over the place really does work!

The other thing that makes today’s Sparkle Video special is that instead of using the 4 point STARFILTER commonly used in the 70’s- this show went FULL KABLAM with 8 points and the results are BEYOND!  Those sequins are twinkling like magic nonstop and it’s making me want to write the President demanding that this effect becomes a national mandate… who’s with me?
