Today the Sparkle Army wishes a dazzling Happy Birthday to one of my all time heroes- Charo! Not only is she a sexy bombshell with big hair and curves to die for, but she’s charming, lovable and funny too. Her famous “Cuchi Cuchi” career has spanned over 40 years making appearances on all the TV shoes that ever mattered including the Love Boat, Fantasy Island, Pee Wee’s Playhouse, the Tonight Show and most recently, RuPaul’s Drag Race. This Spanish songstress is equally known and celebrated for her guitar playing talents and I’m sure this will come as no shock to you Soldiers, but her hits “Dance A Little Bit Closer” and “You’re Just The Right Size” are in heavy rotation at Da General’s living room disco. With an endless supply of sparkle outfits and a big heart of gold that fights for the rights of animals, Charo will always be a hero and today we honor her with a grand Sparkle Army Birthday Salute!
I’M CRAZY LIKE A SPARKLE VIDEO!
Happy New Year Soldiers! It’s the very first Sparkle Video of 2013 and to celebrate I’ve selected this pizazz filled live footage of Boney M. in concert. While I love each and every Boney M video out there, this is extra special because instead of the standard TV appearance with prerecorded music, here we get to see them in their full force of FAB-U-LOUS! Bobby in his glorious cape and the ladies in their sparkling best are backed by an equally dazzling band of musicians. Seeing them perform all together on this stage has truly brought my love for them to a whole ‘nother level! This concert is beyond magical and it includes many of the classics such as “Love for Sale”, “Take The Heat Off Me” and the blockbuster smash hit “Daddy Cool”. We also get to hear some spoken banter to the Viennese audience so it’s in German, which makes it extra hot. Please can someone just make a time machine already ‘cuz I need to be at this concert right now, up front, dancing my sparkles off pronto!
MY HAND OVER MY SPARKLE VIDEO!
Only the legendary Marc Almond could combine sequin overload and ballerinas with a beautiful romantic ballad and come away with something so magical. Thanks to his never ending supply of sparkle outfits, he is a regular on Sparkle Video day, but this is truly one of his most glittering ensembles ever. The fact that it wasn’t enough just to wear sparkles from head to toe and that he chose to add exploding dazzle graphics all over him to accentuate the look confirms once again why he is one of my favorite artists of all time. Now, take all of that and throw in the voice of an angel from heaven and you’ve got yourself a KABLAM!
SPARKLE VIDEO ON FIRE!
For the first Sparkle Video since my return to NYC I wanted something that really starts out with a bang and this clip from The Ohio Players certainly does. What more fabulous an entrance can you have then this one filled with gobs of disco smoke accented by spinning sirens? This intro to “Fire” screams “get up and dance” and in fact, this might be one of the few clips where the Midnight Special audience actually does get out of their seats and dance. It’s a bedazzled funk explosion that’s unstoppable and just gets more and more dazzling when the singer in the sunglasses and dandy scarf gets down with his bad self while flame graphics shoot up around him and then KABLAM! Pop n’ Lock! I must say that as a devoted Midnight Special fan, this is truly one of the most epic performances to ever grace that legendary stage and has me chanting “O-H-I-O .. O-H-I-O!”.
Tonight’s the Night!
Tonight’s the night that Sparkle Soldiers everywhere have been waiting for: Join The Sparkle Army at Monster Ronson’s in party central Berlin. The disco spaceship this year is truly out of this world and you have to see it to believe it so make sure your are here tonight… and that’s an order!

SPARKLE ARMY 2012!
My good friend Monster Ronson and I get so excited while putting together another fabulous Join The Sparkle Army party that sometimes we make a little video so that everyone else can get excited too. This sparkling advertisement turned out to be such a delightful disco commercial for our night of dazzling on the dance floor that it was the obvious choice for today’s Sparkle Video. It features Berlin’s own nightlife superstars Joost & Jackee Word in sparkling outfits, gobs of glitter from outer space and yours truly, Da General. Enjoy Soldiers- and I hope to see you all on November 10!
Join the Sparkle Army: NOVEMBER 10, 2012!
It’s that time again Soldiers! In one month I’ll be packing up my sequins, getting on a jet plane and heading straight to Berlin for my favorite night of the year…
Join The Sparkle Army on November 10, 2012 at Monster Ronson’s in fabulous Friedrichshain!
You are all cordially invited to pledge your devotion to the Word of Glitter along with me, Da General, and the dashing Master of Ceremonies, Monster Ronson himself. Together we’ll be hosting another night of dazzling on the dance floor under disco balls and laser beams and it’s sure to be an extra sparkling night! The evening kicks off with Berlin’s own Juan of a Kind who’s sure to put you in a party state of mind and special guest and dancing sensation,Jackee Word, is going to show us all how to get down tonight! A LIVE performance from the The Supermen Lovers is going to blow your mind! They’re taking their private spaceship all the way the way from Galaxy Francais (that’s France!) just to make you shake your booty so hard, it just might fall off. But don’t let it- because you’re gonna need it for when DJ Massimiliano Pagliara takes over the decks and spins you into a dancing vortex with an ultra galactic disco set! All of the most dazzling things in one place, for just one night… and it’s going to be LEGENDARY!
Oh and did I mention that you should wear sparkles? Not only because it’s approved, but because we’ll also be giving one lucky soldier a 50 Euro bar tab prize for being the sparkliest spaced out sparkle slut in the joint. Plus, those who glitter get in free before midnight so be sure to sparkle up so you can party down… with all of us!
It all happens on that magical date 10-11-12 at 23 Uhr ….. That’s November 10, 2012 at 11pm for my fellow non- europeans!

I can’t wait to see you!
SPARKLE VIDEO WONDERLAND!
Today’s Sparkle Video is a fabulous fashion onslaught of mad proportion. Earth, WInd & Fire, aside from their supreme funkiness, have always been known for wearing incredible outfits and this clip is no exception. It starts from the very beginning with band members in “O.T.T.” getups playing those infamous beginning notes and then- we are hit with the amazing female backup singers. It’s pure magic when they shout “Dance!” while they flail their multicolored chiffon wings and shake their black bedazzled tops and skin tight red spandex pants all over the place. Then KABLAM! Enter the lead singer, in his slim fitting white jumpsuit (with clever neckline to show off his manly chest), covered in so many glimmering sequins it’s almost too much! But it never is… is it, Soldiers? Like I said in the beginning, it’s a stage filled with dazzling fabulosity, which is truly the only way to go if you’re going sing about that glorious place known as “Boogie Wonderland”.
GET ON THE SPARKLE VIDEO TRAIN!
The election year just got serious here in the States with the R.N.C. happening this week and the D.N.C. will be next, so I thought today’s Sparkle Video was more than appropriate. The “Friendship Train” is a musical celebration of harmony and peace sung by one of the greatest singers of our time, the lovely Gladys Knight. On a total side note, this was back in 1972 and I’m gagging to know her beauty secrets because if you see her today, she’s hardly aged a day. Anyway, back to the video which I’m seeing as some sort of visual patriotic message because we have Ms. Knight in fabulous red sequins, the super cool “Pips” styling in luscious blue 3-piece suits and the audience is a dazzling array of white. I think by using the colors of our flag strategically in this video, they have created a sparkling call for us to unite, get passed our differences and work together because “Harmony is the key, my sisters and brothers”. That’s right everybody, get on!
SPA SPA SPARKLE VIDEO DAY!
Every time I see a Boney M video I think to myself, “This one is the video!”, but then I find another one that completely dazzles my mind. Such is the case with today’s Sparkle Video (once you get past the lengthy introduction from the Italian host) because seriously, this clip is truly THE VIDEO. Bobby Farrell‘s superhero outfit complete with Boney M sequined cape is out of this world and emphasizes his dance moves in the best way possible. The three ladies look straight out of Buck Rogers or Flash Gordon with a dash of dancing school fabulous thrown in and have never looked spacier or sexier!. Now I’m not sure why they chose spaced-out-sparkle outfits and galactic backgrounds to perform “Rapustin”, but I’m also not caring much because once again, “KABLAM!” has been achieved.
