I WHO HAVE SPARKLE VIDEO

Today’s Sparkle Video is one of the sexiest and most hypnotic disco songs ever.  It’s the kind you want to be playing while you dazzle on the dance floor to a never ending extended mix because everything about this track is on point.  Starting with the steady beat of the intro, the kick-in of melodically haunting background vocals and then, of course,  Sylvester’s legendary falsetto yearning for the man he loves.  He is competing for his lover with a woman who can buy him diamonds and all kinds of fancy gifts, while he has nothing to offer but his love.  Intense, right?  So intense that while there are many so many other Sylvester videos where he is dripping in sequins, this clip was chosen even though here he sits in a proper man’s suit with only the smallest accents of fabulous.  His clever addition of a sparkling silver tie and a coat worn over his shoulders in “cape style” fashion lets you know that he is no ordinary man hanging out in a bar, but that he is the better choice and he knows it.   Sure-  do I wish he was in a bedazzled catsuit?  Yes.  Does it matter?  NO.

GET DOWN WITH SPARKLE VIDEO DAY!

I had a dream last night- and in my dream, “Open Sesame” by Kool and the Gang was today’s Sparkle Video.  Since I’m one to always listen to my dreams, I got up this morning and went to my computer straight away for “the search”.  It took a bit of time, lots of coffee and boundless sparkling determination, but I found it.  Hidden away because of a wayward spelling (Cool instead of Kool), this clip rivals the one in my dream for fabulosity.  It truly gives a proper visual display to not only one of their best songs, but also one of the best on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack.  Check it: flashing lights, gobs of billowing smoke, almost the entire band wearing silver capes and the lead singer as one bad-ass metallic genie from head to toe.  Always listen to your dreams Soldiers!

SPARKLE VIDEO WONDERLAND!

Today’s Sparkle Video is a fabulous fashion onslaught of mad proportion.  Earth, WInd & Fire, aside from their supreme funkiness, have always been known for wearing incredible outfits and this clip is no exception.  It starts from the very beginning with band members in “O.T.T.”  getups playing those infamous beginning notes and then- we are hit with the amazing female backup singers.  It’s pure magic when they shout “Dance!” while they flail their multicolored chiffon wings and shake their black bedazzled tops and skin tight red spandex pants all over the place.  Then KABLAM!  Enter the lead singer, in his slim fitting white jumpsuit (with clever neckline to show off his manly chest), covered in so many glimmering sequins it’s almost too much!  But it never is… is it, Soldiers?  Like I said in the beginning, it’s a stage filled with dazzling fabulosity, which is truly the only way to go if you’re going sing about that glorious place known as “Boogie Wonderland”.

GET ON THE SPARKLE VIDEO TRAIN!

The election year just got serious here in the States with the R.N.C. happening this week and the D.N.C. will be next, so I thought today’s Sparkle Video was more than appropriate.  The “Friendship Train” is a musical celebration of harmony and peace sung by one of the greatest singers of our time, the lovely Gladys Knight.  On a total side note, this was back in 1972 and I’m gagging to know her beauty secrets because if you see her today, she’s hardly aged a day.  Anyway, back to the video which I’m seeing as some sort of visual patriotic message because we have Ms. Knight in fabulous red sequins, the super cool “Pips” styling in luscious blue 3-piece suits and the audience is a dazzling array of white.  I think by using the colors of our flag strategically in this video, they have created a sparkling call for us to unite, get passed our differences and work together because “Harmony is the key, my sisters and brothers”.  That’s right everybody, get on!

SPA SPA SPARKLE VIDEO DAY!

Every time I see a Boney M video I think to myself, “This one is the video!”, but then I find another one that completely dazzles my mind.  Such is the case with today’s Sparkle Video (once you get past the lengthy introduction from the Italian host) because seriously, this clip is truly THE VIDEOBobby Farrell‘s superhero outfit complete with Boney M sequined cape is out of this world and emphasizes his dance moves in the best way possible.  The three ladies look straight out of Buck Rogers or Flash Gordon with a dash of dancing school fabulous thrown in and have never looked spacier or sexier!.  Now I’m not sure why they chose spaced-out-sparkle outfits and galactic backgrounds to perform “Rapustin”,  but I’m also not caring much because once again, “KABLAM!” has been achieved.

VOULEZ VOUS SPARKLE VIDEO DAY?

Today’s Sparkle Video is not only a piece of music history, but also a great moment in disco fashion history as well.  In this clip, The Midnight Special is featuring an epic live performance from LaBelle singing “Lady Marmalade” and looking like gorgeous Space Queens from beyond the galaxy.   Its no wonder because they’re dressed from head to toe in silver metallic La.. La.. LaGaspi!  That’s right Soldiers, in addition to being deliciously gorgeous and having supernatural voices, these ladies had excellent taste in choosing Larry LeGaspi to create their otherworldy outfits (and a special shout-out to Nona’s bedazzled makeup!).  It makes complete sense to us “More is More” types though, because what becomes a legend most?  A whole ‘nother legend.  And that’s what we call a KABLAM!

BODY TO SPARKLE VIDEO

Today’s Sparkle Video is beyond a classic, in fact, it’s almost a religion.  That’s because “Body To Body” is one of the sexiest disco songs ever made- and that’s saying a lot for 1979 (the year of DISCO!).  Giampiero Scalamogna, a.k.a. “Gepy”, was one ultra-smooth dude; a “vanilla Barry White”.  So cool was he, that rumor has it he called the group Gepy & Gepy in acknowledgement of his “double” size.  Just look at him- surrounded by sexy ladies in high slit satin gowns while he makes dramatic poses in his sparkling sequin vest.  SMOOTH.

SPARKLE TOWN!

Today’s Sparkle Video is quite different than what is usually featured, but it serves as a reminder that you’re never too young to join the Sparkle Army.  The Purple Marshmellow Puppies Rock band’s adorable song is called “Sparkle Town” and it’s a fabulous place where kittens run freely, cows wear crowns and best of all, “no one’s sad and no one’s mad”.  Sounds like my kind of place, but I think the lyrics should be updated to include disco balls and laser beams.

YES! YES! SPARKLE VIDEO

Since today is my first day back in Berlin, I thought this would be the perfect Sparkle Video to kick my vacation party into high gear.  After all, this clip of “No No Joe” from the ever dazzling Silver Convention has everything right both visually and aurally and therefore doesn’t need much explanation from me.  Works for me though, because that means I can continue saying “Yes, Yes” to my “Welcome Back Cocktails” while you take in this fabulous piece of disco splendor.  Enjoy!

LET THE SPARKLE VIDEO PLAY!

Today’s Sparkle Video is one of those classics that you never get tired of hearing and “Let The Music Play” has truly proven itself as “the groove you can’t ignore”.  Easily one of the most famous songs in the Freestyle genre, one look at the gorgeous Shannon in her dazzling peplum top also makes it one of best looking as well.  Here she shows us a fabulous example (for the more casual sparklers out there), that you don’t always have to pair sequins with spandex pants and stilettos, because a great fitting pair of jeans and boots works nicely too.
