LET THE SPARKLE VIDEO PLAY!

Today’s Sparkle Video is one of those classics that you never get tired of hearing and “Let The Music Play” has truly proven itself as “the groove you can’t ignore”.  Easily one of the most famous songs in the Freestyle genre, one look at the gorgeous Shannon in her dazzling peplum top also makes it one of best looking as well.  Here she shows us a fabulous example (for the more casual sparklers out there), that you don’t always have to pair sequins with spandex pants and stilettos, because a great fitting pair of jeans and boots works nicely too.

I FEEL A SPARKLE VIDEO COMING ON!

Sure, today’s Sparkle Video is off to a choppy start, but that doesn’t take anything away from the fact that Stargard is “on fire” as they perform the funkiest track known to man.   It’s a feast for the eyes as well, as their fierce dance moves are accentuated by flowing chiffon, gobs of feathers and yards of sparkling spandex. They’re girls after my own heart as they ask… no- demand to know,  “What are you waiting for, Why don’t you get on the floor?”  Truly something that I, Da General would say.  That, and “I believe I feel some funk coming on”.  And I do!

COULD BE THAT IT’S SPARKLE VIDEO DAY, PART ll

Today’s post is called Part ll because “Just An Illusion” has been the Sparkle Video before, but not this version!  Imagination is quite popular here in Sparkle Town because aside from having a never ending supply of dazzling outfits, they’re truly a group who understands that image is everything and if you’re going to put on a show- then PUT ON A SHOW.  This particular clip was chosen because it rivals the new “Dark Shadows” movie (also fabulous) for the coveted HorrorCamp Award, but I think this haunted house mystery/fashion show might be the winner.  Instead of running for his life, the lead singer is full of swagger as he explores every nook and cranny of that old mansion that features ghosts, dancing skeletons, shimmering vampires and gobs of disco smoke.  What really puts this video over the top for the award though, is when he takes full command of the stairs and turns it into an impromptu stage for his silky descent into the main room.  There, he totally works the dance floor in front of a proper audience, sparkling madly all the while.  Yes Soldiers, we have a winner!

Sparkle Jacket Stealing: NOT APPROVED!

Soldiers, I never ever thought I would have to write a post of this nature, but we can all thank the douchebag in Hamburg who stole our good friend (and high ranking Sparkle Soldier) Snax‘s favorite jacket.  This glittering white number has always been his first choice for a night on the town and especially for live performances when sparkle factor is of the utmost importance.  These photos are from the “Join the Sparkle Army” party back in August 2009, where Snax is looking resplendent in his magical jacket.  As you can see, it’s quite unique and so I feel comfortable saying that if you see someone wearing it, then they are indeed: THE THIEF.

How sad is that?  Someone who has no creativity of their own, no drive to pull together a truly individual and personalized sparkle outfit.  Someone who thinks that stealing sparkle from someone else will make them sparkle, but that’s not how it works, silly Mr. or Ms. Douchebag!  Something that people like you will never understand is that sparkle.. REAL SPARKLE.. comes from within and no matter how many sequins, glitter or swarovski crystals you glue to body, you will never sparkle.

Soldiers, we must all band together and keep our eyes open to help bring Snax‘s beloved white sparkle jacket back to him safe and sound.  Most importantly, you must take a photo of the person (a.k.a THE THIEF) you catch wearing it so it can be uploaded for all to see and so they can be banished from all Sparkle Army events for eternity because stealing someone else’s sparkle outfits, parts of sparkle outfits, jackets, shoes or space cuffs (get some!) is NOT APPROVED!

“YOU CAN’T WIN LIKE THAT! Anyway, the joke’s on you…’cuz you can take the look, but you can’t take the funk. Snax moves  forward, while you’re just frontin’.” – Snax

FUNK YEAH! IT’S SPARKLE VIDEO DAY!

Today’s Sparkle Video from Rokotto rocks my whole entire being.  Aside from being one of the most well outfitted bands to grace a stage, they sing the only gospel that matters in this world.   Listening to the golden sequined singer preach that “There is just one way that people come together- it’s in the music that we play”  has me screaming “AMEN!”.   In fact, this sparkle-tastic performance of “Funk Theory” makes me not only proud to be a believer in the Word of Glitter, but also in the magical power of music and dance and, most importantly,  a believer that there are more of us than them- but ain’t that what funk is all about?

…. and by the way if I might add… Join The Sparkle Army on November 19, 2011 at Monster Ronson’s where we will praise, praise, praise!

ENJOY SPARKLE VIDEO DAY WITH ME!

Today’s Sparkle Video shows The Jacksons performing on Musikladen dressed adorably in bedazzled powder blue from top to bottom with the fabulous touch of spaced-out shoulder pads.  I personally find it much more effective when the entire group has matching outfits don’t you?  It certainly makes much more of a statement and I love the one they’re making!  The infectious repetition of “Enjoy Yourself” coupled with Michael’s pleading to stop worrying about things you can’t control, just live the life you got and get up on the dance floor and have some fun makes this one of their catchiest songs ever.  Well, you don’t have to twist my arm Jacksons…I’m already dancing!

NIGHT IN SPARKLE VIDEO DAY!

Today’s Sparkle Video is about the importance of a really snazzy number and Cherry Laine, rocking a very flirty “hippie-style sparkle- fringe” outfit, is backed by some the sassiest dancers in town as well as an equally hypnotic disco classic.  Can someone please make me a loop of the “Night in Chicago” chorus so I can hear it endlessly while I dazzle on the dance floor making dramatic arm moves every time that fierce and intense string section chimes in?  I’m sure you can envision that, because I can.  Then again, maybe I’m feeling a bit sentimental after a recent visit with good friends in the Windy City which was wonderful for so many reasons, but what really sticks out in my mind is their spiral staircase spanning three floors. Yes Soldiers… many fabulous entrances were had!

Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame Museum

As a devoted music lover, it’s always been my dream to go to the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame Museum and, thanks to Hurricane Irene and an unexpected stop through Cleveland, I finally got my wish.  There is so much to see that you really do need at least one whole day to experience all the fabulousness.  Some points of interest include learning about the early musicians who influenced and shaped what was to become Rock n’ Roll, the history of sound and audio and, of course my favorite and clearly the most dazzling part, the exhibit of artifacts and OUTFITS!   As you can imagine, there was no shortage of sequins and rhinestones in the building as people from all genres seem to know that sparkling on stage is a must for any good performance.  I was able to snap a few photos which is technically forbidden, but why on earth would I pick this moment in time to start following rules, especially when it’s my duty to share my glittering experiences?  Sadly, I was only able to sneak a few shots before my battery wore out (and also due to museum staff lurking about), but here are some of what I was able to capture.

What you don’t see here are gobs of garb from other heavy hitters like Stevie Nicks, Michael Jackson (including “The Glove”!), Jimi Hendrix, Elvis and so many more.  Timing was also on my side as a special exhibit titled “Women Who Rock” was showing and this was even more sparkle-tastic and included some of my favorite ladies in music including Cher, Heart, The Runaways, Debbie Harry and The Supremes.

The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Museum is also the place to go if you want to see many of the top designers to the Superstars under one roof and some of the most legendary are there including Nudie Cohn, Ossie Clark, Bob Mackie, Stephen Sprouse, Micheal Schmidt and Kansai Yamamoto.  Now, let me ask you Soldiers- do you happen to notice anyone’s name in particular missing from this list?  The answer is Larry LeGaspi, who is not only my idol, but one of the most prolific costume designers in music history.  I was perplexed that I didn’t see his name anywhere and then… it hit me.  While looking at some George Clinton pieces from the Atomic Dog era,  I looked up at the sign and was blindsided because the outfit was credited to “designer Larry Lagatsby“!  I was truly in a state of shock and wasn’t sure how to react because after all, I was overjoyed that he actually was included in the exhibit, but such a grave mistake was not tolerable on my part.  Should I alert an employee nearby?  Do I whip out a Sharpie and fix it myself?  Perhaps I go with a classic move,  “the meltdown”, then create a scene and wait for an apology?  I couldn’t even bring myself to photograph the sign as evidence because it was truly heart wrenching.  In the end, I decided not to let this one moment ruin my amazing experience at the museum and that the best thing to do was to go home and write a letter to the curator and explain their mistake, in my most courteous Sparkle Speak of course, and kindly ask them to correct it.  While I’m at it, I’m also going to suggest that they change the name to the Rock n’ Roll AND DIsco Hall of Fame, because after all, we like both kinds of music!

In the House

This track is on FA-FA-Fire!!!  I was truly having a sluggish morning until I put on “In The House” and now I’m on top of the world.  It’s all because Dimitri from Paris serves the most glamorous sex-tastic version of the Chaka Khan’s “Any Love” that I’m not sure whether to rip my clothes off or keep getting dressed and go to work.  Alas, Sparkle Outfits don’t pay for themselves so off I go, but with a much bigger smile on my face.
